The Salt Rim ("we," "us") takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect when you interact with us, how we use it, and what choices you have. Plain English. No dark patterns.
1. Information We Collect
When you book an event or fill out a form, we collect:
- Booking info — your name, email, phone, event date, event type, and venue address.
- Event details — guest count, theme preferences, cocktail selections, custom drink names, dietary notes, and anything else you share with us to plan your event.
- Payment info — processed through Square. We see the last 4 digits and card brand for reference; we do not store full card numbers or CVVs on our servers.
- Communication history — emails, SMS (via Twilio), and notes from conversations we have about your event.
- Automatic data — standard web log info (IP, browser, pages visited) for security and basic analytics.
2. How We Use It
- To plan, coordinate, and deliver your event.
- To reach out with questions, confirmations, reminders, and post-event follow-up.
- To process payments and issue refunds.
- To improve our service — reviewing what's booking, what's not, what guests are asking for.
- To send occasional marketing emails (only if you opted in, and you can unsubscribe anytime).
We do not sell your personal information. Ever.
3. How We Share It
We use a small set of third-party services (sub-processors) to run the business. Each only sees the data it needs:
- Square — payment processing and card-on-file.
- SendGrid — transactional and marketing email delivery.
- Twilio — SMS confirmations and reminders (if you opt in).
- Google Firebase / Firestore — secure cloud storage for booking records.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — powers our drink-naming tool. When you use it, your cocktail + event-theme inputs are sent to Anthropic to generate name suggestions. No personally identifying information (name, email, phone, address) is sent to Anthropic.
We may also share information if required by law (subpoena, court order) or to protect our rights, our team, or the safety of others.
4. Your Rights
You can, at any time:
- Access the data we hold about you — email us and we'll send you a copy.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your data. We'll honor deletion requests except for records we're legally required to keep (e.g., tax/financial records for past bookings).
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email, or by replying "unsubscribe."
- Opt out of SMS by replying STOP.
California residents: you have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal info. We don't sell or share personal info for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Cookies & Analytics
We use basic first-party analytics to understand how the site is being used — which pages load, which buttons get clicked, where people drop off in the booking flow. This data is aggregated and not used to identify you individually. We do not currently run third-party retargeting pixels or advertising cookies.
6. Data Retention
- Booking records are kept for 7 years to comply with California tax and business recordkeeping requirements.
- Marketing contact data is kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
- Event-planning notes and drafts not tied to a confirmed booking are deleted within 12 months.
- Payment data is stored by Square per their retention policy; we do not keep full card data.
7. Children
Our services are offered to adults aged 21 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we've collected data from a minor by mistake, email us and we'll delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, if the change is significant, notify existing clients by email. Continued use of our services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
9. Contact
Privacy questions, access requests, deletion requests — all come to the same inbox:
